Note! If your site has non-recipe, how-to cards, the block will be inserted above those still.
Personally, I think that’s great. I’d just change the CTA and any wording in the email to talk about the post rather than the recipe. And if you want to email the ingredients & instructions, it will still work.
If you want to (a) exclude non-recipe posts or (b) customize the wording for recipes vs. crafts, there is a way to do so.
How to insert before/after the recipe card
Step 1: Set up your “save for later” functionality
I’m not going to focus on configuration in this post, but you can use any “save for later” method. We have a post that mentions a couple options for setting up “save this recipe” functionality.
Step 2: Purchase & install Automatic Block Inserter Pro
For this, you’ll need the PRO version of Automatic Block Inserter. (If you’re using the block editor extensively, you’re going to love this plugin and the paid features.)
Step 3: Use the block editor to style your block
Create a new Automatic Block Inserter item, then add and style your block. Assuming your theme supports core WordPress block properties, you should be able to style pretty much every element.
For example, if you copy this code into the editor, it will add a block that looks something like the below. Fonts and sizes/spacings will differ based on your theme.
Remember to replace the last two rows in this block with (a) your form plugin’s block or shortcode or (b) your email provider’s form embed HTML code.
The form you add won’t look like this design… that might need to be set up through the external email provider or form plugin you’re using.
Step 4: Insert your block directly before or after the recipe card
Now for the fun part: tell ABI to insert the block using these settings:
- Location Type: Block
- Placement: Before
- Select Block Type: wp-recipe-maker: WPRM Recipe
- Offset: 1
Now, any post with a recipe will display your “save this recipe” block directly above the recipe card. Pretty! Easy!
