A fallback image is used in any instance that a featured image was not specifically selected, such as on your archives page or when someone shares your article on a social media site. With Genesis, the default behavior is to look for any other images that are attached to the post, and use the first one. What if we don’t want that behavior, however?
Well, Gary Jones provides a great resource for removing it. However, if we want to replace the default image with one of our own choosing, we can modify Gary’s code a little to satisfy our needs:
In this snippet, we define our featured image by its ID number. You’ll need to upload it to your media library and obtain the ID from there. Replace my “4740” with your own image and add this block to your functions file!
