With Food And Love

With Food And Love is Sherrie’s plant-based diet haven, full of gorgeous photos and delicious recipes. She came to me needing a few changes made to her Obscura theme.

Home Page Re-structuring

Sherrie received a lot of compliments on her theme, but she was bothered by the fact that her home page didn’t have a sidebar, couldn’t have advertisements, and didn’t showcase her content fully. In fact, her site could have advertisements integrated, despite her previous developers claims that it couldn’t. While we fixed that issue up, why not tackle the rest? Sherrie’s home page originally had a Masonry layout (like Pinterest), meaning her content was in small bricks that would re-position themselves when the screen was re-sized. In order to display her photos in a larger manner, we removed the Masonry component and let the content speak for itself. In addition, we added the sidebar back to the home page and made sure everything was still mobile responsive.

Sherrie knew the importance of her home page, and wanted it to better showcase her content.

Footer Advertisement

Besides placing ads in Sherrie’s header area, sidebar, and below her posts, she wanted a long leaderboard in the footer. To do this, her widgets were restructured from four columns to three, with the ad stretching across the last two. (It isn’t populating here, but you can trust me!)

By creating one long column and two shorter columns in the footer we could place an ad below the second two without hassle.

New Social Icons

Sherrie’s site came bundled with some social icons, but she wanted to expand the included set, enlarge the size of the icons, and replace the images. While she had the images she wanted to use, she didn’t know how to create an image sprite or add additional options to her theme in order to integrate new services.

Using the images Sherrie provided, I create a new image sprite, remapped the icons so they could be larger in size, and added additional option to her theme.
