Use plain email embeds

Email platforms have more and more opt-in form functionality, from embeds to pop-ups to landing pages. That extra functionality requires extra resources and extra time to load, though. Where possible, use plain HTML forms for opt-ins, or remove any unnecessary resources that are automatically included by your email service.

MailChimp

MailChimp’s default embed code adds a script and stylesheet that is intended to improve the overall display and functionality of the subscription form. However, neither resource is optimized and both are unnecessary to the functionality of the form.

Options:

  • Embed their “naked” form, which removes the script & style tags for you. It will use your theme’s basic form styles.
  • Use a plugin, like Genesis eNews, to add a script-less, style-less form. (Most Genesis child-themes provide styles for it.)
