WordPress uses a service called “Gravatar” to enable avatars all sites. However, we recommend disabling these avatars. While many optimizations are in place for them, they’ll typically cause PageSpeed warnings anyway.
You can disable these avatars by going to Settings > Discussion > Avatar Display and unchecking the “Show Avatars” box.
After doing so, all avatars on your site (for both you and your users) will be disabled. Common locations include:
- Comments
- Bio widgets
- Author boxes
