What is the extent of our work together?
If Mediavine is covering a specific project for you, you’re considered a “priority” client and we’ll have up to 2 hours together. That said, the only tasks we’ll be completing are those which Mediavine outlined. If you want to work together on your own projects, you can request a separate 2 hours using this form!
If you’ve already submitted your name to that form and I’ve reached out, asking what you want to work on together, you’re now considered a “request” or “general” client and we get 2 hours together to do whatever you want! So what does this very vague “2 hours” cover? Keep reading to learn more!
HOW CAN I MAXIMIZE MY TIME WITH YOU?
This is a really great question.
In an effort to reduce confusion and improve clarity of work, we’ll outline 2 hours worth of tasks before starting any work. You’ll know exactly what we’re working on, there’s no risk of accidentally exceeding your free hours, and everyone is on the same page at both the beginning and end of the project lifetime. 🙂
I want you to get as much value as possible from this time together, which is why I’ve spent so much time creating this documentation – we can spend less time talking procedure and more time taking action!
To get as much work done as possible, the best thing you can do is send me either (a) your goals or (b) a list of tasks you know you want to address. Based on this information, I can provide you with some feedback on how we can spend our time in order to accomplish as much as possible. I also have ideas, below!
To get the most feedback as possible, especially if you don’t know the answer to either of the above questions, we can either (a) schedule a call together, to talk about your goals, your site, and the possibilities of each, or (b) I can spend our time analyzing your site and providing recommendations for attention in the future, by you, your developer, or a separate project the two of us take on. 🙂
What kind of tasks can you best help with?
What we typically do when working with a client is refresh their site with an emphasis on hassle-free management, user-friendly experience, and search engine optimized code. We also consult on content strategy and email marketing. While we can help you in other areas, we recommend talking with your designer about branding and your host about your database or the speed set-up on your site (e.g. caching). Usually, clients have a specific task – something that’s been driving them crazy – they ask me to take on.
Some tasks we’ve taken on recently:
- Functionality
- Create and set up content indices (using FacetWP or custom templates)
- Set up curated home page (vs. chronological)
- Styles
- Custom recipe cards for WPRM, ER, or MPP, among others
- Insert Instagram footer widget
- Modify theme fonts and colors to match brand
- Mobile
- Convert themes to mobile-first (limited to certain themes)
- Completely remove content from mobile (e.g. don’t bother loading the sidebar if you’re not showing it)
- Restructure header (search, social, opt-in above the content)
- Emails
- Set up drip email sequence (e.g. MailChimp, MadMimi, Drip, ConvertKit)
- Implement email lead capture (platform of choice is OptinMonster)
- Update newsletter sign-ups and connections
- Consults
- Manage affiliate links
- Speed
- Defer Google fonts
- Audit excessive load time or scripts
- Audit plugins with recommendations for removal or replacement
Note that some of the above, highly impactful tasks are not fully covered by the 2 hours. If you’re looking to stay within those limits, the best fit for our time together is typically to look at a list of tasks you’d like taken care of. We will recommend how we can help you accomplish as many tasks as possible without exceeding the free time from Mediavine. Alternatively, we’re happy to recommend the area where we think we can make the most impact toward your current goals!
What happens if we want to do more than mediavine provides?
You will not be charged for any work unless previously agreed upon. If the tasks you’ve requested cannot be covered by the Mediavine agreement we will let you know what we can do and the optional cost of additional work.
When working with Mediavine-provided time, I typically just bullet out the tasks we’ll be completing. This conserves our already limited time. 🙂 If we are going to exceed those free hours and take on more work, you’ll receive a project details sheet (which includes tasks, quote, timeline, etc), a separate agreement, and an invoice prior to start.
Why do we sign a contract with you?
The contract is just the best way for us to share some relevant information with you and be sure you’re read it. The most important takeaway, in our opinion, is that you need to back up your site before we start working together. This isn’t just for us: you should always do this before allowing someone new into your site.
How do I share access to/give you a login for (X) service?
I have a whole separate page just for login access and security. 🙂
